APRIL 27TH 2005 KEITH URBAN HATED PRACTICING GUITAR Believe it or not, guitar slinger Keith Urban actually once hated to practice on the guitar that's practically become an appendage of his body. He tells the new issue of Country Weekly, “I’d go to my dad and say, ‘My fingers hurt. I don’t want to do this anymore.’ He’d always say, ‘Well, then, don’t.’ He used reverse psychology–and it worked perfectly.” Of his single-minded focus, Keith says, “I’m a very intense person, and when I’m doing something, that’s what I’m doing. I don’t like being pulled out of the studio to go back out on the road.” |
JOHNNO HAS OLD AUDIO FROM 1995 WITH KEITH. Check out Johnno's site, as he has an old interview there from 1995 listen to Keith chatting with Johnno in 1995 about his new band called "fourwheeldrive", that was the band that became 'The Ranch". Also it's interesting to hear Keith's views on Nashville and the song writing at that time! Check out the audio link CLICK HERE |
Country's Craig Morgan Soars with My Kind of Livin' By Mary Morningstar Washington U.S. Army paratrooper-turned-Country singer Craig Morgan has made a slow but steady climb toward a successful music career during the past five years. Unlike most of today's top Country stars, he's signed to an independent record company. But, that hasn't held Craig Morgan back from joining the superstar ranks. My Kind of Livin' "I Got You" is one of eight songs Craig Morgan co-wrote for his third and latest album, My Kind of Livin'. Craig says he was inspired to write the song while touring with Country star Keith Urban, who's known for his high-energy concerts. Morgan first considered giving the song to Urban. But, he saved it for his new album, and now says it's one of his favorite songs to play live. |
APRIL 28TH 2005 WHAT HAS KEITH BEEN DOING WHILE DOWN UNDER? As always, when Keith gets downunder, its filled with him having to run here there and everywhere!... Last night Keith attended the opening of "TAPDOGS" Also attending the opening night was another Aussie favourite, Russel Crowe! WHAT IS TAPDOGS? The State Theatre is proud to welcome the international dance sensation Tap Dogs to the stage. Currently taking the world by storm with their unprecedented tap show, Tap Dogs, combines the strength and power of male workmen with the precision and talent of tap dancing. The show started with six guys from Newcastle, a steel town north of Sydney. Oliver Award winning choreographer Dein Perry headed the team with designer/director Nigel Triffitt, and composer Andrew Wilkie and created Tap Dogs, a 75 minute reinvention of tap for the new millenium. Australian Dein Perry, creator and choreographer of Tap Dogs, has come a long way from the garage behind his dance teacher’s house in Newcastle where, as young boys, he and the 'Dogs' learned how to tap. After moving to Sydney Dein finally broke into show business in the long running Sydney production of 42nd Street and afterwards decided to create a contemporary show around the themes of his industrial experience with his Newcastle tap dancing mates. With a small government grant, Dein contacted his old friends and formed ‘Tap Brothers’, which with the help of eclectic designer and director Nigel Triffitt, resulted in the eventual creation of Tap Dogs. |

I was one of the very fortunate ones that got to witness the taping of this show... The songlist is Days go By Raining on Sunday Walk in the Country You're my better half Better Life Making Memories You'll think of me Somebody like you Questions were asked half way through the session, by audience members.I won't give you the full answers as I do not wish to spoil the show for you... but here is an outline of questions and answers. Some of the questions asked were... Who has influenced you? Keith said Noone... What do you miss most about Australia?... you guessed it..." Chocolates!" What is th hardest difficulties you have had to face?...Answer:" Living on the other side of the world!" ( He said more, but I don't want to spoil the show for you all) What is the one thing you can't live without?....".Playing!" Is winning awards important to you?...".Awards mean nothing unless YOU win them!!! " I can testify that once the doors opened to the max session, we did all bolt down the stairs to gain prime positions!... The exec (?) producer said that herself (regarding people running in and rushing to the stage). It was pretty hard to miss the excitement levels ... it was pretty much through the roof! I think the hour or so wait actually had everyone more eager. Honestly the stage performance is something THAT HAS TO BE SEEN!...Keith tore the Opera House down! AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING!!!! |

A BLAST FROM THE PAST! As Jerry Flowers is touring downunder with Keith again, I thought I would give all the new Urban Mates a blast from the past, With an interesting story from 5 years ago, When the Ranch had reformed for a reunion! Neon Nashville Main CountryCharts.com Home http://www.countrycharts.com/Ranch.htm Not Even The Metro Fire Marshall Could Keep "The Ranch" Down Douglas Corner Café - Nashville, TN - September 21, 2000 Jo-Ann Poharcyk, Aurora, CO Opening "The Ranch Reunion" Concert, for a larger than capacity crowd, was the Instrumental Guitar Genius, Mr. Tommy Emmanuel. Keith Urban introduced his fellow Aussie to an intense crowd at the Douglas Corner Café in Nashville, and started the evening off with a bang. Emmanuel showed what he is made of and gave a performance that was ear pleasing to all. Displaying his "Tennessee Pickin’" Emmanuel gave the audience a real treat with his flair and style on the acoustic guitar playing a variety of songs. One was written about a village he had visited in Kenya, South Africa and another for country legend, Chet Atkins’ hometown of Luttrell, Tennessee. It was clear to see why Urban favors Emmanuel as a great guitarist able to perform feats of magic with his instrument. His ability to produce bongo like sounds and beats of a drum gave the audience a spectacular toe-tapping, body swaying arrangement to enjoy. As guitar players go, they grow ‘em good down under. Before "The Ranch" could take center stage, newspaper columnist Brad Schmitt of "The TENNESSEAN" announced to the crowd that Nashville’s Finest were about to close the venue down unless the oversize crowd reduced its size. Asking for volunteers who had seen the previous night’s show to give up their seat in exchange for a refund of the cover charge, a "Ranch" t-shirt, and "a kiss on the mouth" (not really, he was only kidding about that part), Schmitt along with Urban’s manager, Greg Shaw cleared the room to satisfy the Fire Marshall’s concerns. This was the first time in the fourteen year history of Douglas Corner Café such an event had ever taken place. Fortunately for all that remained, the show would go on. . . With all code restrictions under control and the spirited crowd gathered around, "The Ranch" put on a two and a half hour extravaganza of pure "Ranch Country." The Trio of Keith Urban, Jerry Flowers, and Peter Clarke, started the evening off with the upbeat "Some Days You Gotta Dance" and continued with "Just Some Love" and "Walkin’ the Country," all with "The Ranch" distinction. Jerry Flowers took lead vocals with an outstanding rendition of "Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay," before joining the group in the classic instrumental "Clutterbilly." "The Ranch" Reunion was credited to Peter Clarke for suggesting the band get together and do a couple of shows while he was in town. Bringing Peter forward from behind his drum set the band rendered a fan favorite "Homespun Love." Slowing down the tempo with "Tangled Up In Love," an Urban solo of the Glen Campbell/Jimmy Webb classic "Wichita Lineman," and "My Last Name" the band demonstrated their appreciation for time-honored traditional country songs. Turning right around and rockin’ the house with "Freedom’s Finally Mine," "Hank Don’t Fail Me Now" and the ever popular "Desiree" (in which Urban blew out three of his four amps) "The Ranch" gave the crowd a dazzling display of their musical talents. The band paid respect and tribute by giving thanks to Vernon Rust, the co-writer on many of "The Ranch" songs for without him the band may never have been. Throughout the evening Urban kept the crowd amused with his humorous antics and stories from ordering a round of drinks from the bar to the rehearsal hall camaraderie that the band had shared earlier in the week. Although they had not performed together for quite some time the easiness which they shared on stage was felt and enjoyed by all. In closing the night with an encore presentation of the Charlie Daniels’ hit "The Devil Went Down To Georgia," Urban, Flowers, and Clarke lit the fires of the crowd to show that by no means had the Fire Marshall put a damper on their evening! MAY 1ST 2005 THE AUSTRALIAN LOGIE AWARDS! Well tonight was the showing of the long awaited Logies, and Keith Urban's performance. May I start my little report first with saying, 'THANK GOD FOR KEITH"... All the remarks I am about to write are my own personal opinion, I have not discussed with others what they thought. I sat there patiently awaiting to see Keith, I normaly enjoy the Logies. But this year, I felt it sucked! The back drops ect looked shocking, the audience were unresponsive, the entire thing dragged on like a toothache. All the time I was begging for Keith to get on there and lift the whole mood of the show!. Keith's performance was EXCELLENT.. AS ALWAYS... he added some excitement to the show, that was slowly spiraling down the toilet, as far as I am concerned! Things didn't make me any happier, awaiting to see keith on the red carpet, or in this case white carpet, and they announced they will be speaking to Keith Urban... IT NEVER HAPPENED!!!! They showed a quick glimpse of him and that was that!!!.. In fact I can't even tell you what he wore, it was that fast! I have to say if ever I felt a need to contact media and voice a complaint, about the way Keith is overlooked... this is the TIME!!!!! and I WILL contact media and complain BIG TIME!... What a shambles the entire program was... in fact they were just about to read the gold Logie winner and the show went off the air!!! some tech hitch. THIS IS MY REVIEW.... AND I AM SITTING HERE IN TOTAL DISGUST OVER THE ENTIRE THING. KEITH DID SHINE THOUGH... AGAIN HE WAS THE STAR ON THE TOP OF THE CHRISTMAS TREE! YOU WILL BE HEARING MORE FROM ME IN THE NEWSLETTER ABOUT THIS! |

WILL KEITH SING AT THIS WEDDING? HEHEHEH Todays odd spot: Kansas couple turns over wedding plans TV viewers will decide the details of the gown, flowers, cake and honeymoon for former Wichitans. BY BOB CURTRIGHT The Wichita Eagle Aaron Landis and Lynette Stand are turning over their wedding decisions -- gown, flowers, cake, even honeymoon destination -- to a bunch of strangers from all over the country. And the former Wichitans, who just won the Ultimate Country Wedding contest from Great American Country TV, couldn't be happier. "I don't care what they decide -- just as long as I'm still marrying Lyn," Landis said. For her part, Stand said it's a "godsend." "I absolutely love it. I work two jobs and go to school. There was no time to plan the wedding that we wanted," said Stand, who is finishing her business degree at Baker University while commuting to Kansas City every day to work at Sprint. The couple, who met at Wichita State University and have been engaged five years, now live in Lawrence. All that Landis and Stand, both 28, need to do for the next few weeks is kick back and watch while viewers of GAC-TV (digital Channel 239 in Wichita) vote to plan their wedding. First up are her wedding gown and his tuxedo, and voting is now under way on the station's Web site: www.gactv.com. "We've seen the choices and they're all great," Stand said. "But the ones that we like the best are in the lead." Later will come votes on invitations (online voting starts May 11), flowers (June 1), the bride's hairstyle (June 22), the honeymoon destination (July 13) and, finally, the wedding cake (Aug. 3). The couple credits Landis' aunt and uncle, Kenny and Linda Graham of Rose Hill, with spurring voting among family, friends and fellow Kansans. For the wedding, Landis and Stand were competing against couples from New Jersey, Montana and Washington, D.C. The D.C. couple also had a Kansas connection through Andrea Ball, who grew up in Wichita. "When they (GAC-TV officials) told us we won, they said it was close. My uncle and aunt had gotten KFDI involved, and the media coverage pushed us over the top," Landis said. The wedding will be Labor Day weekend in Nashville, and a top country star will sing at the reception. "They asked us for our top five choices. We gave them Brad Paisley because he is our favorite -- both of us," Stand said. "And there's Kenny Chesney because it was one of his lyrics ('I want to know what forever is like') that Aaron used when we got engaged." Also on the list are Keith Urban, the Dixie Chicks and George Strait. Landis said winning has changed his outlook on life. "I was always a skeptic. I never believed that people like us really won these contests, but Lynette did. After this, I'll have to adjust my attitude. Lynette has turned me into a dreamer." |
