2001 ARIAs
October 3, 2001 SOURCE:http://www.urbanintensity.com/AndTheWinnerIs.html The ARIAs, or Australian Recording Industry Awards, are equivalent to the American Grammy's. The ARIA organizers, realizing the significance of what Keith had achieved in 2001, decided to honor him with their Outstanding Achievement Award, which recognizes extraordinary achievement by an Australian artist overseas and/or at home. Keith was given his award by longtime friend & Aussie Country Legend Slim Dusty, whom Keith had given the same award to the previous year. Keith had this to say about the honor: "What genuinely moves me about this is that it is a non-genre award. Every performer values it when they are acknowledged for their artistry rather than for just the specific genre of music they are working in. It's a great honor." Previous recipients of the prestigious award include Kylie Minogue, INXS, Savage Garden and silverchair. Keith then joined Kasey Chambers to perform her song "Not Pretty Enough". He wasn't originally scheduled to perform but stepped in after the band with which Kasey was to perform cancelled due to a recent car accident by their singer. What a great guy! |
