THE REAL SCOOP
During the past year, the Winnebago Dairy Queen has undertaken a massive effort to revitalize the local eatery. However, despite good word-of-mouth about the restaurant's cleanliness and food, even manager Kathy Larsen was somewhat stunned when the County Music Association's "male vocalist of the year" stopped in for a bite last Tuesday.
With a small army of cameras from County Music Television in tow, Keith Urban and his opening band "The Warren Brothers" filmed the warm-up act's new video "Barely Famous" during their two-hour stay.
Urban and his friends actually visited the store Monday night while riding their motorcycles along U.S. Highway 169. Though some of the staff recalled Urban's thick Australian accent was out of place, those behind the counter weren't country music fans. Store owner Mike Anderson later learned his distinguished visitors were so impressed with the friendly atmosphere, they decided to return the following day.
"They just liked it here," says Larsen, admitting she was in the kitchen busily cooking when Urban showed up Tuesday afternoon. Upon hearing the commotion up front, an employee walked back to relay news that "Brad Paisley" had arrived. "I looked from around the corner and said 'That's not Brad Paisley - that's Keith Urban,' " recalls Larsen, knowledgeable of the music genre's stars.
"And then they took over the DQ."
Urban and the Warren Brothers were filmed cooking in the kitchen, eating and just having
a good time. "We let them do whatever they wanted to do," adds Anderson. Truth be told, as a recording artist with nine consecutive Top 5 singles, three multi-platinum compact discs and three Grammy nominations, Urban enjoyed a medium-sized hot fudge and peanut butter shake. He also ordered a classic Grillburger with french fries. He ate the whole meal.
Larsen and her staff were more than happy to track down some special cooking spices to make one of the Warren Brothers' mushroom and swiss cheese burger a little more tastier. The celebrities were so happy, they even spent time cooking the burger themselves.
Larsen reports Urban is just a regular guy country music superstar who puts his boots on one at a time. He was accommodating and pleasant, never once uttering an unflattering word or having a "diva-moment." "He was just down to earth and appreciative," says Larsen, who received a ride on the back of Urban's motorcycle. Several of the employees and their spouses also received fifth row tickets to Urban's Tuesday night concert in Mankato - plus back stage passes.
While on stage, Urban issued a "shout out" to Winnebago - thanking residents and the local DQ for the fine hospitality.
"He's one of my favorite singers now," admits Larsen. Anderson adds Urban proudly signed an electric guitar just like the one he plays on stage, thanking the restaurant for its hospitality.
The owner plans to display the instrument at the soon-to-be-famous DQ. "It was quite an exciting day in Winnebago," he chuckles. "This was a great opportunity not only for the Dairy Queen, but also the city of Winnebago."

Summertime, and the livin' is easy ... unless of course you're the Warren Brothers. With only three weeks left before they leave town to play the Brooks & Dunn Deuces Wild tour -- and with Brett's wife due to deliver twins any minute -- the boys are inundated with last minute preparations and desperate for a few moments of rest and relaxation.

The first bit of business is buying Brooks & Dunn a thank-you gift for hiring the guys to play on the tour and what better gift than a pack of unruly, miniature donkeys. After taking the bucking burros for a hilarious high-speed test drive, the guys drive out to Kix Brooks' farm and foist the beasts of burden on their reluctant new owner. With that chore out of the way, the boys get down to the business of relaxing ... or at least trying to.

Hoping to spend some quality time with their kids before the craziness starts, Brad, Brett and Marty decide to steal a few days and take the boys camping in the Tennessee woods. After setting Marty up to drive all five kids by himself, the guys head out to Percy Priest Lake on the outskirts of Nashville where the simple task of putting up a tent becomes the impossible dream for Brad and Marty. As they tackle all the rituals of camping -- from foraging for wood to singing by the campfire -- the boys enjoy sharing the father-son experience with their young sons.

As the kids fall asleep before the roaring fire, Brad, Brett and Marty finally find a quiet moment to sit back, relax and ... answer the blaring ringtone of Brett's cell phone. It's their manager, Kelly, calling with news that Keith Urban needs them right away as his opening act -- in Minnesota. Unrested, unrelaxed -- but thrilled at the opportunity -- the guys hit the road for Mankato, Minn., where they hook up with good friend Keith Urban and decide to spend a day riding Harleys through the countryside. Cruising into the tiny town of Winnebago, Minn., population 1,487, Urban and the boys stroll into the local Dairy Queen and cause instant pandemonium. The ladies at the Dairy Queen coax Urban behind the grill where he and Brett cook up burgers for the ecstatic customers.

Afterwards, everyone bikes back to Mankato just in time for the big concert where Brad and Brett open the show with their new song "Waiting for the Light to Change." What kind of reception will thousands of excited female Urban fans give the Barely Famous Warren Brothers? Tune in and find out.
