RISTIES REVIEW OF Fayetteville Keith Urban came to my home state of North Carolina this past Saturday night. I was so honored to have him here and to have tickets to see him with my sister!!! I have to share that I was very anxious about this show. As much as I love Keith and as big as he has become, I still felt my state was a little behind and hasn't caught up in the recognition of this wonderful man and his talent and the increasing recognition that he puts on one hell of a show! I was afraid the crowd would just sit there. WAS I EVER PROUDER OF MY STATE THAN SATURDAY NIGHT!!! And Keith seemed to be having a great time! We stood the entire show, sang every song with him, clapped and hooped and hollered and repeated and yelled for him for his encore and there were so many signs in the crowd...what a great time it was!! And I have to say that I believe Keith smiled almost during the entire show...he was really having a wonderful time! I have never seen him smile and laugh so much in one show...maybe we were just plain ol' funny! : ) Keith made a surprise performance during Katrina Elam's opening performance. She saved These Are the Days for the last song and Keith came out and played banjo with her and sang back up...It was very cool seeing Keith play a different instrument. I have always thought he does such a great job when he plays the banjo/ganjo on his songs that are on his cd's...we just don't have the pleasure of seeing him perform on them during a concert...Well that all changed this past Saturday... : ) Keith started off his show as a siluette sitting on his chair on top of a loud speaker singing These Are the Days...then the lights went out, the band came on stage playing Days Go By, Keith was center stage and the show was off and running! Keith was wearing a brown t-shirt with a star on it, jeans and his silver studded belt...he was looking mighty fine! He went right into Better Life and the rest of the set list included These Are the Days, Raining on Sunday, You're My Better Half. Katrina Elam came out to sing Hard Way with him. It was so beautiful...they sat on stools and took turns singing the verses. Then the band left with Katrina and Keith sang Homespun Love (White Trailor Trash Song) along with the I Hear You Knockin' remix. Tht is one of the most fabulous pieces of work I have ever seen...Keith pounding a beat on his guitar and the microphone...it is so fun!! Then he sang Making Memories of Us and You're My Everything on his stool. The band came out to join him while he sang Jeans On...I love the line "You don't need anything except your negligee" : )...then You'll Think of Me (passion pours out of this man like water...just gorgeous...this performance sent chills up my entire being!) After that he sang You Look Good in My Shirt...or as he sang at one point in the song...you look good in my skinny wet t-shirt...as he commented on the sweaty little shirt he was wearing...he laughed after he sang those adlib words. She's Gotta Be...only one word for this...INCREDIBLE...this song performed in concert blows me away...the energy and the music...just incredible! Free Falling is always fun...Keith broke us up into groups...one side, the other, the back and the front/middle. The first side wasn't very good at first...but Keith gave them another chance...then each section was a little better. When it came to us, the front and middle section, we were so loud that he fell back a few steps...and laughed! After that he sang Somebody Like You and I guess we passed the loud test, because he played the left; the stage and his crew brought out the piano and red overhead light for him to play Tonight I Wanna Cry. He came back out and sang that while playing the piano...it was beautiful! It impresses me so much how talented he is...he can play this sensitive song so tenderly on the piano. Then the band came out and they jammed with Who Wouldn't Wanna Be Me! When they were done, Keith threw out his pic and it landed of all places on my sisters coat that was sitting in her chair...I surprised myself how fast I moved and grabbed it! How awesome is that!?! After that, Keith told us what a great crowd we had been and he patted his chest telling us he felt our love and that he loved us all! He bowed to us...hehehe...He was so cordial! It was a great, great show! I couple of neat things that happened...there was this radio station promoting the show...they had a sign contest, so there were lots of signs...Keith at one point had the lights come on so he could read them...of all times for me to NOT make a sign...anyway, this one girl had a sign saying how she got a ticket on the way to the show and needed a pic for insurance...Keith had her come up ON the stage and talked to her about it...OMG!!! He gave her his pic that he had been using and gave her a hug and kiss...and a giggle...when she walked off the stage, he said..."Oops that was my favorite pic"...then he made a sound on the guitar and joked that she messed him up and he wouldn't be able to play very well now... : ) WOW!!! What an experience for her!!! Also, Keith talked about how once he flew one way into NC to buy his first car, a Chevy Impala...Cool! Did anyone know that? That is some good trivia! I wonder where he bought it! Also there is a part in his show where he sings a tune and we repeat after him...We (the crowd) were going back and forth with him with these tricky Waa-Ohs about 10 times or so and then he did this really long one that has rolling tongue sounds and a Scooby Doo at the end...Well, we tried really hard to repeat it...and guess what? We did NOT get the wimpy mic...we must have been pretty good...HA!...Keith got a good laugh off us! That is for sure. It was a really fun night...it was wonderful having Keith here in NC and hearing him say "NORTH CAROLINA" when he would talk to us...Thank you Keith for coming...We love you!! Come back soon now, ya hear! |
