Keith Urban kicks off tour in Brisbane
12th May 2007, 9:51 WST

Oz rock may be witnessing a resurgence via the likes of Wolfmother, but Keith Urban has proven there still a lot of life left in country music.

Urban and his band on Friday night dazzled a capacity audience at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre as he kicked off the Australian leg of his Love, Pain & The Whole Crazy World tour.

It is the first time the 39-year-old husband of Hollywood star Nicole Kidman has brought his band's full-scale arena show to Australia.

He energetically ploughed through his repertoire built over two decades on the road.

Urban, who is supported by The Waifs, will perform again in Brisbane on Saturday night before moving on to Sydney's Acer Arena on Tuesday, May 15, followed by concerts in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.

...lock, stock and guitars

NASHVILLE, TN Friday May.11.2007 /netmusiccountdown.com/ -- It's hard enough getting the stage and lighting for a big time country show around the good ol' USA and Canada...but, it's another thing to ship it all 10,000 miles to another continent.

But as KEITH URBAN's Love Pain & the whole crazy World Tour heads to Australia, going with Keith are... TWO stages, more than 150 lighting fixtures, 50 miles of cable, eight trucks and more than 15 metric tons of gear have been shipped from the United States to Australia. Band and crew, more than 50 strong, have landed in Brisbane for two days of production rehearsals.

THE TOUR, which premieres in Brisbane (May 11th and 12th) for two performances at the nearly 15,000-seat Brisbane Entertainment Center, will be Keith's first concerts played in his native Australia in nearly two years. May 15th will have 'Love, Pain & the whole crazy World Tour' at Sydney's Acre Arena before concerts at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne (May 18th), Adelaide's Entertainment Centre (May 20th) and Perth's Domed Entertainment Centre.

Yes, it’s been a crazy six months for Urban

KEITH Urban thanked his wife and fans for their support as he rocked a packed Entertainment Centre in Brisbane on Friday night.
Fans didn’t get a glimpse of Mrs Urban (Nicole Kidman), but her Grammy award-winning husband was in top form as he performed 20 songs backed by a five-piece band delivering.

It was the first show of Urban’s Australian tour and his first time in Brisbane since supporting Lee-Ann Rimes almost two years ago.

He gave 110%, and the adoring crowd, of almost 15,000, sang along.

The large stage included a runway that almost reached the rear of the stadium, giving Urban great access to his fans.

“It’s been a crazy last six months and I thank everyone for their prayers and support,” Urban said from behind the piano after returning to centre stage, to thunderous applause, for an encore.
“I’d definitely not be here tonight without my wife, so I wanna thank her.”

It was easy to see that performing is where the popular singer really feels at home, with the weight of his personal battles seemingly lifted from his shoulders as he delivers hit after hit.

Keith kicked off the show with Once, followed by Blacktop, Faster Car and Shine.

He then headed into the crowd to play Raining acoustically, which also lent itself to the first major sing-along.

This was followed by Better Half, Making Memories, You’ll Think Of Me and then Told You So, from his new album, and tour title Love Pain and The Whole Crazy Thing.

All this led to the crescendo for the big hits Days Go By, I Can’t Stop Loving You, Tonight I Wanna Cry, Who Wouldn’t Want To Be Me and Somebody Like You.

Then the lights went out and he said goodnight.

A four-song encore ensured that the fans got what they were looking for.

Keith again proved, with a two-hour set, that he is still an awesome performer, guitarist, singer and piano man.

Keith returned to the Brisbane stage last night, and his wife and family from the Sunshine Coast were expected to be special guests.

FAN REVIEW

Hi Everyone Last night was FANTASTIC

HERE WE GO MAMA

After a long day filling in time I finally got into my car and drove to BEC it took an hour and a half in the traffic and I was really nervous when I arrived at 5;30. Got a great park in the forecourt. No one at merchanding so bought my tshirt. got my passport stamped. Picked up by BSE letter and got a sticker to put on and the letter said meet at 7:30

Went down at 7:15 and went into the foyer and there were the Urban family (Mum, Dad, brother and wife along with a lady who taught Keith to sing 30 years ago.) Another group were from the record company I think including Heather Ford(? surname) the TV presenter who went to school with keith. and finally the four MV fans. A nice select group of about 30.

A wonderful side story the final mv member (cant remember her name) had her daughter with her and the daughter wasnt allowed in so the mum gave up the experience to let her daughter go in. when keith spoke to the little girl I explained how her mother had given up the chance for her daughter and Keith said " wow what a wonderful mother" and told the little girl she was lucky to have such a great mum.

So we filed into a waiting area and the organiser explained no cameras group photos one family, one record company and then the fans. ours was the smallest group. Then Keith came in and said hi as each group posed for the photos he spoke to each person. first photo family photo "now where will I stand " Keith asked everyone said between mum and dad. Then Heathers family had a photo tnen the record company peopls.

DRUM ROLL PLEASE

Now the fans said the organiser and we stepped forward. Keith said Hi to each of us and gave us each a BIG hug. After the photo he chatted about the girl and her mother. I said welcome home its great to have you here and asked him how he was (really great was the answer) and then I told him to stayy well. he said thanks and then said thankyou for coming LUCY!!!!!!!!!!!!gave me another hug and then he left.

We went into the screening room I sat to the side near the little stage that was set up. He came in saying something about being here with his family and introduced us to his singing teacher and then played Stupid Boy sitting only a few meters away. How absolutely awesome was that. Ater the song he said"This is usually where I answer questions but as you are all my family you already know the answers." one person asked if Nicole was there and he said "well thats a question I havent been asked before "and laughed and added yes she would be there both nites.

Then we went to out seats. The concert was awsome. I was on the first tier and had a great view of both stage and catwalk. My daughter pointed out a woman at the end of the catwalk with hair that shone really brightly and said I think that is Nicole. She was seated at the end of the catwalk at the edge of the sound?lights pit. Keith sang to her. She was laughing and clapping obvioulsly having a great time. She was escorted out 5 minutes before the end of the show.

I am getting ready to go again tonight. this time I am on the floor about where he sang the first catwalk song last nite.

One really nice thing on the video which was about getting organised for the tour. keith was checking out the merchandising and said he really hated it when he bought concert shirts and they were hard and shapeless.. He said the quality of the fabric was really important and he always checks this out on his stuff.

Well thats enough of my ramble. i have written this because I have always enjoyed reading other peoples accounts and thought you might like to share this with me. i was really a part of a select group last night and had a very unique experience.

It was a truly wonderful nite. Thank you Keith

lucy
